Writing Activities: Look and Listen-Favorite Place

Think about your favorite, normal, everyday place. Is it your bedroom? The kitchen? Library? Playground? Do you have a window seat surrounded by books? (If you do, I’m completely jealous. I’ve always wanted a window seat.)

Regardless of where it is, sit there for a moment because today we’re going to write about it.

The idea behind this writing activity is about paying attention and noticing things that you might not have noticed before. When you get used to the things that you see every day, you sometimes forget how amazing they really are. So, take a moment today to notice the little things; the way the sun shines through the window, the way dirt sits in a corner of the room because the broom can’t reach it… It can be a lot of fun to write about these little things from your own point of view.

So, take some time. Write about what you see and how you feel about it. Really stop, look, listen, and notice the things about this place and see if you can find anything about it that you didn’t notice before.

You might surprise yourself!

Some ideas if you are stuck

*What does your place FEEL like?

*What does it smell like?

*What’s above your place?

*Describe a teeny tiny part of your space, like the fabric of a pillow, or the texture of the floor etc
